All visitors of the State Castle Vimperk are required to follow the Visitors' Rules (see the section Visitors' Rules).

how to get to the castle

From the train station: follow the red tourist marker for about 2,2 km (30 minutes of walk).

From the bus station: follow the red tourist marker for about 1,9 km (30 minutes of walk).

By car: the only way to the castle parking lot is through the Hřbitovní street, around the Arboretum and summer theatre.

A parking lot for about 7 cars is right in front the castle entrance (point 1 on the map). In case that all places are occupied we recommend to park your car in the city centre across the Grammar School (Gymnasium, point 2 on the map) and walk to the castle through the street Podzámčí.

The barrier-free access is not possible during the time of reconstruction (2018–2020).

The castle is opened in the provisional conditions; therefore there is no barrier-free toilet.


Dogs and other animals cannot enter the castle during the time of a reconstruction (2018–2020).


The cyclist cannot enter the castle courtyards during the time of a reconstruction for a safety reasons.

The bicycles can be locked at the parking lot in front of the castle. The parking lot is not guarded and the stands are not available. Bringing the bicycles into castle interiors is strictly forbidden.

Child care facilities

The changing table is not available.

During the time of a reconstruction (2018–2020) the activities for children will be limited. For more information visit the section Children visitors.


No refreshments are sold at the castle in a present. However there are restaurants, cafés and confectionaries in a walking distance.
